Yahoo! Testing New Homepage Layout
Yahoo has begun to test a new home page design with random A/B testing today, and Steven Cohen grabbed the latest ‘coveted’ screen shots.

There isn’t a huge difference between the old and new pages, but we are thinking this move may have been initiated to increase Search traffic, since MSN is phasing Yahoo! out of it’s paid listing distribution.

Obviously upon first glance, the new site is much easier on the eyes, and incorporates a bit of “Web 2.0″ functionlity. It’s cleaner and categorizes the pages main links/resources on the left rail - things like email, My Yahoo and other Yahoo services and content. [TC]

You know, I like the new look, but I must say, when I was in a hurry and looking for something that had ALWAYS been in the same spot on yahoo.com, I was pretty pissed when I couldn’t find it on the drastically-redesigned Y! homepage.

Not saying they shouldn’t move forward to improve usability….just need to soften the transition pains for us regular users, who grow accustomed to using the same UI everyday.

Perhaps stuff that’s moved could wave at you, and say “hey dude, I’m over here now!” That’s my best suggestion for now, and I don’t imagine I have to worry about the Y! folks stealing it.
